You may know Donnie Wahlberg from his acting roles in “Band of Brothers” or “Blue Bloods.” He says he has now become a follower of Jesus. He was baptized at Shepherd Church in Porter Ranch, California.

It seems this has been on his mind for a while. “People in this industry are broken,” he said.  “I’m realizing in this last year – I’m broken, too.” Most telling was his realization: “I’m missing something in my life.”

His wife, Jenny McCarthy, was a few steps ahead of him on this journey toward Christ. One morning he told her, “I have to connect with Jesus. I have to give my life to Him now.”

This yearning for completeness looms large in the human experience. Someone wiser than I observed that all human yearnings are ultimately fulfilled in a relationship with Christ Jesus, your Creator and Redeemer. So, we should not be surprised that the Bible anticipates this sense that something is missing and offers the solution.

The Bible says in Christ, “all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete” (Col. 2:9-10). To come to Him, admitting your moral failures have left you broken and in need of a Savior, is to be made complete. Note this is quite different than chasing the will-o’-the-wisp of pop religion offering the latest self-help therapy, rather than a Savior who makes you complete – in Him.

There is an “already, but not yet” look about this. Through faith God deems you already righteous (complete) and your eternity secure. But living out your humanity, you are yet a work in progress. “He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus” (Phil. 1:6). So, you are complete while God continues to supply what is missing, like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and goodness.

“Looking back over the past year of my life,” Wahlberg said, “the Lord has been renewing my mind and redeeming my life! I don’t know where I would be without Jesus.”

I do. Still feeling like something is missing.
